Lulu Kieran’s Fashion Minute

Lulu Feels Playful

August 29, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Lulu’s really digging the playfulness of the upcoming fashion season; with all this magazine hype about construction and minimalism, she was glumly anticipating an early-sixties-style Fall in which (as in the days of Jackie O) many women unsuited for the boxy jacket or the square trouser embrace them, crying “It’s mature! It’s moderne!

It’s not that Lulu dislikes minimalism or Jackie O-ism per se. As a matter of fact, Lulu believes that it looks lovely on women whose bodies and styles are suited to it. These women, however, are rare creatures: they are long, narrow, Vata-type gals who could benefit from a little widening. Lulu, a Pitta with an hour-glass figure, finds that boxy minimalist outfits tend to hide her pretty waist and make her look like a short, fat pear.

Thus, Lulu is happy to find that minimalism is not the only trend on the market this fall: there is also an enjoyable California-hippy-meets-samurai trend, employing lovely cascading fabrics and feminine waist-cinches. Lulu has dressed her drawing in one such item – an incredible silk Bally playsuit, printed with an orange paisley pattern. See it on the Bally official website, here. To properly show off the waist, Lulu has added a Bally leather belt, also viewable on the Bally website if you dig around a little.

Because her drawing needed an accessory that, like the Bally jumpsuit, was equal parts fun and couture, Lulu gave her the new Armani Amethyst Bag. Go ahead and try to find it on the Armani website here; but Lulu finds that site so confusing that she thinks you’re better off just looking at an article about it here, at a site dedicated to Italian fashion.

Lulu owns this drawing. You may not use it without her permission.
